Gihan El Tabaei (Gigi) started as a professional guide in 1983. She has a Bachelors Degree in Archaelogy with a minor in Philosophy from American University in Cairo, a degree in Ancient Egyptian History from Egoth Institute, and degrees from Charles University. Besides guiding, she travels throughout the Western world lecturing in Egyptian history and the role of women in Islam. “Egypt is a land of great civilizations and of rich history. Amy Ballard acts as Senior Historic Preservation Specialist in the Architectural History and Historic Preservation Division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Society for Commercial Archaeology and Friends of the Hermitage Museum. At the Smithsonian Institute, she has led various exhibits, including “The Art of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna,” and “Happy Birthday St. Petersburg.” This published and award-winning woman brings her passion for history to the Footsteps of the Patriots tour.
Anayansi Castillo brings our Discover Panama tour to life with her expert insight into environmentalism and tropical biology. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Assessment and worked as a Panama Canal tour guide in the International Communication and Tourism Division. Since 1993, she has worked as a BCI Tour Guide in the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Published for expertise on birds, insects and the tropics, she cultivates her passion with memberships to the National Association of Ecotourism Guides and formerly the Panama Audubon Society.
